An imbalanced lifestyle may indicate that we are lacking in certain areas of our lives. Or it may indicate that there is too much of something, something that we are obsessed with or using to avoid some area of responsibility. Since work typically consumes a substantial portion of our time, this lack usually occurs in our personal lives. Too much work will mean that there is not enough time for personal or family life. It is feasible to strike a balance between the two, though. Here are three things you should stop doing to get your work-life balance back on track. By watching out for these three things to start with, a lot of stress and conflict could be avoided.

Boy, that is easier said than done. Lots of fear are just “miss-out syndrome.” What if I miss out? Many people worry that if they aren’t working, they could miss out on something, especially business owners and entrepreneurs. They worry that their company will collapse or that they will pass up a significant job advancement. They think that if they don’t devote enough time to whatever project they are working on, awful things could happen.

Avoid fear to be balanced!

However, you start to achieve a healthy work-life balance if you understand that it’s acceptable to take a break and that the job will still be there when you return. Stop worrying that there could be more.

Actually, you have to take breaks. You must give yourself time away from work, or you will burn out. Like an athlete, you cannot go non-stop, day in and day out. There must be time to take a break, pause the cycle, and refresh the batteries.

The fear of missing out will drive some to let personal and family life go by the wayside. This is misdirected fear. It should be acknowledged and put aside as false thinking. It is not skillful and leads to a lopsided view of life.

Avoid quantity over quality to be balanced!

I usually have a mile-long “to-do” list when the day first begins. I do as much work as I can for several hours a day to complete as many tasks as I can. Even when the outcomes aren’t spectacular, I know that at least I am making progress. I hate it when I get in such a hurry that I mess up and must go back and redo the task. It infuriates me, at least for a few seconds.

I believe that we are all much more satisfied when we complete a task without having to start it a second or third time.

Sometimes it is just a matter of focusing attention, but sometimes it is merely the normal lack of precision that always happens when we try to hurry.

Instead of cramming as much as you can in, consider concentrating on one activity at a time and doing it well to achieve the best outcomes. You can achieve a better work-life balance as a result. No one ever truly multitasks. It’s not truly possible. It is better to get it done right once than to do things over again and rob ourselves of the time that we could be working on more pleasant things.

Avoid the quest for perfection to be balanced!

Similar to avoiding quantity over quality, it’s crucial to let go of the idea that your output must be flawless or even close to flawless. Maybe a few saints have been close to flawless, but God knows I’m no saint. And I’m not likely to become one.

Accepting our imperfections and sometimes even planning for them is healthy and wise. Writers know this. (At least they know it part of the time.) Writers plan time and effort for revision and editing. Whatever we do, going back and checking what we have done is an important part of any job. Do it. Examine it, Correct it. These are the three steps to complete any project.

But even when we are examining our personal and family life, there is the need for reflection and corrections in these areas too.

If you put too much emphasis on perfection, you can still find yourself falling short of your goals. Simply take your time to do a task and do it properly. If it isn’t perfect, don’t worry about it or feel like a failure. You may establish a healthy work-life balance thanks to this.

Conclusion

Unbalanced living is detrimental to us on many levels. There will always be an unsatisfactory part of your life if your life is out of balance. Additionally, an imbalanced existence adds to stress levels, which in turn leads to health problems, which add to stress, and it keeps on going on. However, if you give up these three activities, you’ll discover that achieving a better work-life balance is far more achievable.
